The Secret to Getting More Done in a Day

Do you ever find yourself staring at your never-ending to-do list and wondering how you’ll ever get everything done? Do you start and stop your list and then keep adding more? And more? And more? Well, this has been a solution that has helped me not only tackle my lists but has also helped me get through the day feeling less overwhelmed. The secret? Sectioning off your day into three time frames and rewarding yourself with a small treat after completing the task in each section. Something extra; think about your reward, and choose the one which you will look forward to for each task; it becomes really fun the more you do it.

Now, I have only put one task for section, but of course, you can always add more tasks and break up the time frames even more (like 8am-10am 10am-12) if you are feeling it, but be realistic-the goal is to feel calm, cool and accomplished…not freaked out and frozen!

Here’s how it works:

Section 1: Morning Motivation
Start your day off strong by tackling at least one task first thing in the morning. This could be a task that requires a lot of energy and focus, such as responding to an important email or completing a challenging project, or having a needed work conversation. Once you’ve completed that task, reward yourself with a small treat, like a custom latte or a few minutes of your favorite podcast.

Section 2: Early Afternoon Acceleration
After lunch, it’s time to kick things into high gear and tackle one more task. This could be a task that requires less brainpower, such as scheduling meetings, setting an appointment you have been putting off, or updating your calendar. Once you’ve completed your chosen task, reward yourself with a small treat, like a favorite food for lunch or a few minutes chatting with a good friend.

Section 3: Home Stretch Empowerment
End your day on a high note by tackling one final task before you wrap up. This could be a task that requires a little more creativity or inspiration, such as brainstorming ideas for your next project or updating your social media. Once you’ve completed your last task, reward yourself with a small treat, like a piece of dark chocolate or a few minutes of your favorite TV show.

The key is to find rewards that work for you and make you feel motivated and happy. By sectioning off your day and rewarding yourself for completing one task in each section, you’ll not only boost your productivity but also make your day a little more fun.

So, go ahead and give it a try! And remember, small rewards can go a long way in keeping you motivated and on track.
